One of Scotland’s most iconic weekends is almost here — and trust us, it’s so much more than just a day out.
Cowal Gathering 2025, running from Thursday 28 to Saturday 30 August, is shaping up to be the ultimate celebration of Scottish tradition, talent and one of the best family friendly events of the summer. And if you’ve been before, you already know this isn’t just a Highland Games — it’s a full-blown cultural experience.
The cornerstone of any Highland Gathering is the traditional stadium events, and Cowal Gathering has some of the world’s most prestigious. From, the raw power of the Cowal International Heavy Athletics Championship, the fiercely contested Cowal Pipe Band Championship to the grace and precision of the World Highland Dancing Championships, the Stadium will be bursting with world-class competition.
But while the competitors sweat it out on the field, there’s a whole world of entertainment happening on at the top of the Stadium.
Head up to the Top Field for a feast of family fun. Those pesky ducks are returning to Cowal with the much-loved Drakes of Hazard and Artie’s back with his Singing Kettle to tell you the story of why three crows were sitting on a wall, there’s something for every age (and attention span). And yes — it’s all included in the price of your ticket.
You can also get hands-on with Glasgow Science Centre, try your aim at Braveheart Axe Throwing, hop on a bike, dive into arts and crafts, battle the giant games, or watch a Punch and Judy show — it’s a whirlwind of activity you won’t want to miss.
From midday the party steps up a gear with the opening of the Live Music Tent.
This year’s music line-up is headlined by crowd-favourites Rhuvaal — a young band with serious energy and even more serious party vibes.
Also joining the fun is Ross Miller, returning to Cowal with his own group, the Ross Miller Band. If you’ve seen him with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers or competing with the Grade 1 Inveraray and District Pipe Band, you’ll know you’re in for a treat.
And opening the tent with some classic ceilidh tunes? The one and only Inverhooley Ceilidh Band. Don’t forget your dancing shoes!
